Amateur finds ring only 2nd time round!
The ring finder begins:
Late afternoon on the 17th of July I went to the beach with friends and they lent me a new Fisher F5. This was my second visit to the beach with a metal detector. Being new to the hobby and not really knowing what I was doing, I found the F5 very user-friendly, light and easy to swing. I did my set-up as per the manual and within minutes I was ready to hunt.
Being a newcomer I followed the water line from one side of the beach towards the other when I noticed another fellow detectorist trying his luck up on a higher line on the dry sand. As the sun was setting and being a few meters behind him I decided to follow the line his spade made from dragging it behind him instead of working my way back to the water line again to where I had started.
Surprisingly after a short distance I picked up a signal and was very confused as to why this gentleman had missed it and started digging to see what it was. I thought that he may have decided to skip that target when out of the blue this beautiful ring pops out. It was all black but I was pretty excited that it was a ring and my heart was pounding with excitement. I felt a bit guilty when the gentleman came towards me to check what I had found as he was surprised that he had missed it. He verified the stamp as 925, being a Stirling Silver ring.
When I got home I cleaned it to get a better look of the ring and to my delight exposed the beautiful blue stone. It just shows you that you must not be in a hurry when detecting as you might miss good targets Also do not skip anything before making sure or rather dig dig dig. You never know what will be found.
Before even finding the ring I fell head over heels in love with this Fisher F5 I would recommend any amateur and serious hunter to get one as its so easy to use, lightweight and the display is crystal clear, it definitely has the power to get the job done.
